Marceline, is it just you and me in the wreckage of the world?
Clearly, I do not pay attention in class.
Little Red Bunny Hood and the Bad Little Wolf
Working on a watercolor piece of a cross-over between Little Red Riding Hood and genderbend!Adventure Time. It features Fionna as Little Red and Marshall Lee as the big bad wolf. I’ve also been doodling people as AT-universe characters. Debating on whether or not I should offer commissions for that!
You can see more updates at my instagram: @clareicature
Finished Tobi (@tol3i)’s commission! I’ve still got two openings, so if anyone is interested in getting their own, please visit the Etsy link above. Any signal boosting, sharing, or liking would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!
HAY GUYS. I recently opened an Etsy listing for tiny chibi commissions! It would mean the world to me if you guys took a look, shared the word, or even decided to buy one.
I’ve been trying to find a job, but since I’m a student, my schedule and school work makes it difficult to find an employer that is willing to hire me. (On campus jobs are very, VERY particular about who they hire. Unfortunately, I don’t fall under their needed criteria…)
Again, any help is appreciated!
… please don’t make me have to sell my soul/body online. LOL. :(
Ever since school started, I’ve been finding it harder and harder to be active on Tumblr. Took an exam last Wednesday and have been working on 1 of 3 paintings for my VIS106B class. Here’s what I managed to do after 5hrs of painting in the studio on Sunday!
This is 20” x 24” and done with oil paints.
“Lady of the Forest” by Clare Nguyen
22” x 30”, graphite.
Work in progress photos can be seen here.
Bought Batman Begins today because it was $5. Watched it because I was lazy and lame and ended up doing a speed paint.
~30 minutes or so.
“Dogs Like Bones, Men Like Meat!”
11” x 17”, 300dpi.
This was a poster I drew and designed for my DOC3 (Dimensions of Culture: Imagination) course as part of my final. The writing that inspired this poster was “No More Miss America,” which talks about how women (in today’s society) are modeled by what men want.
The quote I used (“Dogs like bones, men like meat”) was posted on Tumblr and it instantly made me roll my eyes. First off, why should a man’s opinion shape how a woman looks?
I’ve been told before that I need to “eat more” because “that’s what guys like.” Sorry, but I don’t look the way I do for guys — I do it for myself. I look the way I do because one, I like it, and two, I CHOOSE to. No guy (my boyfriend included) dictates how I look, what I wear, or what I do. If I want to gain weight or lose weight, who cares as long as I’m healthy and not putting myself in danger?
Secondly, this is pitting women against women. If you aren’t aware already, women come in all shapes and sizes. Some are naturally thin and others are naturally bigger. There is nothing wrong with that and absolutely nothing shameful about it. By stating that “dogs like bones,” you are saying that only dogs will like the skinny/thin girls. You are stating that no man will ever want them. As a result of that, bigger women are “superior” because a man WILL want them.
Sorry, but I think this is stupid. Who the fuck cares? Why should a woman base her entire worth on whether or not she will end up with a guy? Shouldn’t her worth be based on her actions or how she is as a person? Why are we shaming one body type and praising another? Can’t we just focus on having women be healthy and in control of their lives? You can be unhealthy when you’re big and also when you’re skinny. The same goes with being healthy: you can be healthy when you’re thin, but you can also be healthy when you’re big.
tl;dr Fuck the idea that a woman’s worth should be determined by what a man or society wants.

This was my final project for my VIS105A class. Originally, I was going to do a Game of Thrones piece (namely Cersei’s outfit from episode 9!), but I couldn’t come up with anything, so… I went with hair.
Because I love drawing hair.
And mori-inspired girls.
Excuse the gross quality, I took these WIPs on my phone. I’m hoping to get this scanned in and to post an official version sometime soon!
Reference for her hair was used, which you can find here.
